1,2,3’s of Leadership
As a part of our staff leadership development we are required to read a number of books throughout the year. Our team has recently finished reading Courageous Leadership by Bill Hybels. This was the first book we’ve read as team since the start of the New Year, and I must admit that the book is a valuable asset to any leader (especially leaders involved with church ministry). Bill shares his insights and experiences from a very practical point-of-view, and really breaks down so many different aspects of the joys & challenges that leaders face. There are many elements of the book that I’d love to share with you but it’s probably easier if you just read it for yourself.
My favorite quote from the book is from chapter 2, where it states:
“However, some of the most exciting visions that God ever offered to humans have languished, withered, and died. Why? Because some leader somewhere saw it and felt it but did not have the guts to own it or act on it. He or she failed to pursue it, so the vision never became a reality…. To squander a vision is an unthinkable sin.”
Although it seemed a bit harsh when I first read it, I fully recognize the importance of that statement. It reminded me of how important it is to not only hear God’s voice but to actually take action! I’ve had to ask myself…
Am I squandering the vision that the Lord has given me? Or am I fully embracing the vision He has placed on my heart? What about you?
