Do We Really Need a Practice Run?

Okay, so I must admit that I was kind of skeptical about attending an event at the Rogers Centre where the title was trying to duplicate what the Bible vaguely refers to as heaven.  But I thought it might be a good idea - maybe the seats would be covered with gold - or maybe they would give out jeweled crowns to all attendees.

On the way there I geared myself up to sing songs from the 1980’s and be quasi embarassed by another less than excellent Christian production.   As I travelled along the TTC singing “Jehovah Jireh” (don’t worry not out loud) I was rudely interrupted to break up an ensuing fist fight.  At this point I knew that at least this night would be memorable.

And memorable the night certainly was.  When the scantly clad Hawaian dancers entered the stage - someone leaned over to me and aptly said, “I believe this the least amount of clothing I have ever seen people worship in.”  At this point I knew the night was going to be good.  From the amazing production (lights and sound) to the absolutely beautiful artistic expressions of worship - I was mesmerized from beginning to end.

Seeing different cultures and people groups worship together with one sound was breathtaking.  And I can’t wait until next year’s event.

Next year - I won’t be embarrassed to invite people - in fact I would even consider inviting people who didn’t know Jesus.

Is a Financial Armageddon a Good Thing?

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I have been astounded by the meltdown in the financial sector of the US economy. It seems like every day I turn on the radio, there is another major financial institution going down, and I if I hear the word Armageddon on the news one more time, I’m going to scream!

While politicians are all saying that they warned us about this impending crisis, I think no one really expected any of this to happen. And now, the scary thing is that it doesn’t really seem like there is an end in sight. (more…)

Jesus is Like a Mountie…

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago, someone sent me this video… No, this is not a joke or a dress up sketch – this is real - and really funny.

Laugh along – but don’t watch it too many times – or you too will be singing “Jesus is My Friend” all day long!

Actual Lyrics Include…

“Jesus is like a mountie, He always gets his man, and He’ll zap you any way he can!”

“He loves me when I waste my time writing silly songs…”

By the way – who is your favorite singer in this video? Mine is the bearded 70’s background singer – he’s got some sweet moves!

By the Light of Late-Night Church TV

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Tonight I stayed up quite late – It was after 1:00am and I couldn’t sleep. My brain was still racing and I was mentally going over the list of things I needed to do before the next day.

After tossing and turning, I decided to turn on the T.V. and see what was on. I flicked past a church show, and for a moment I thought about whether or not I should stop and watch – I decided not to – Sports Highlights seemed like a more engaging show. (more…)

Welcome to MyLiberty Blog!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

So, welcome to our blog! I guess the question is: with about a billion blogs out there, why would we begin writing another one?

And as we’ve taken time to think about it, it really comes down to one of our core essentials: community. (more…)
