Urban Art School

Benefits of art educationExploring the Benefits of Art Education

At Liberty, we see the pursuit of beauty as the pursuit of God’s heart, and we truly believe that art can be a vehicle that engages people in this journey.

For many years the artistic community has been all but ignored by the evangelical church– and this has created barriers not only for artists but has also left a void of beauty and artistic expression within the church.

But at Liberty International Church want to not only embrace the arts – we want to be a place that promotes

and champions the arts and art education. For this purpose, we have established the Urban Art School.

Just as many other programs at Liberty are about helping young children discover their gifts and talents, the purpose of the art school is to expose urban children to artistic expressions they may not have had the opportunity to explore.

Art Schools are Not Usually Accessible for Inner-City Kids

For many youth, art instruction is a luxury and an opportunity they rarely get. As you drive through any major city, it’s impossible to miss the artistic expressions that graffiti artists leave on buildings, bridges or really anything that will showcase their work.

While we don’t condone illegal activity, we do recognize that youth from urban centres are crying out for a place to express their artistic talents. Many of these graffiti artists are only looking to be acknowledged and to be recognized for their gifts.

At the Urban Art School, we don’t want to create “cookie cutter” artists - we want to create an atmosphere that lets children and teens find their unique artistic voice.

Qualified instructors and artists bring their experience and passion to the classroom setting.

As God is the Master Artist, we believe that our Urban Art School has the power to change bring the art students hope, and change their outlook on life forever.

Showcasing their Masterpieces at the Gala Event

At the Urban Art School, students experiment with paint, charcoal, and various other mediums. At the end of the session each student will have worked on a masterpiece that will be presented during a gala event, to which the art students are encouraged to invite their family and friends. Local leaders and politicians from the community will be invited to the Gala Event, too.
