Back to School Bash

Free “Backpacks of Hope” to Registered Students

First day of school supplies

Every year, thousands of students return to school unable to compete with other students in their class because they lack the tools they need to start the year off right.

According to the United Way report on poverty, children in the Greater Toronto Area have faced growing pressure as poverty levels have been increasing at exorbitant rates.

Next to Christmas, the month of August - which heralds the back to school season - can be one of the most stressful times of the year when it comes to the family’s bank account. And because of this financial pressure, kids can resent going back to school for more than just the obvious reasons.

At Liberty International Church, we not only want to be informed about these realities, we also want to do something about them. We know how important school is to a child’s future.

Although social justice implies getting to the source of a problem, we also understand that sometimes families just need a helping hand so that they can have enough breathing room to begin to address some of the root causes of their situation. We also know that generosity is a powerful tool to show a community that you genuinely care.

Back to School Activities at B2SB

These are the reasons that motivate us to host the Back to School Bash - or B2SB as we like to call it. It’s great big community party where every registered guest of school age - younger children and teenagers - receives a backpack filled with age-appropriate school supplies.

We usually fire up the ole barbecue and have a party that lasts a few hours. It’s a great way to build up confidence in our students, parents and the community as a whole.

We understand that communities can be transformed by simple acts of kindness, and that families can be given hope by the simple act of giving away a backpack.

Because we know that there are thousands of families in the Greater Toronto Area that could use this help, we want to increase the number of registrants that we can accommodate.

Registration for 2011 is now closed!

Please check back in August 2012 for updates with regards to this event, and for those needing a backpack be sure to register early to avoid disappointment.  We look forward to continue serving our local community to impact the kingdom of Heaven.

Each year this takes creativity as we look for ways to finance this amazing party and make sure that every child has an opportunity to succeed in their education. Please contact us if you would like to:

  • Volunteer to help out at the Back to School Bash event.
  • Contribute a creative idea on how to provide more and better backpacks to Toronto children.
  • Make a donation to support the growth of Back to School gifts of much-needed school supplies

Help every student - regardless of his/her financial situation at home - get a good running start to their school year!
